We're currently working on a new series about knowledge management. The effort is part of a larger inbound marketing strategy to reach people through related topics that appeal to those who haven’t heard about Glide.
This project marks the first time we've combined the efforts of our different producers into a single video team. Instead of me producing the whole video, I have concentrated my focus on the design and creative direction, Sebastian has handled the strategy and content, and Rahul has produced it.
The primary goal is, therefore, speed. Although the progress of the project has been slow due to other priorities, I feel like we’ve done a good job at being quite lean. So far, we’ve produce 2/5 videos 👇
Improving my design
One of my main professional goals at the moment is to enhance my design skills (you can read more about this in → ). This was a great project to get my teeth into in that regard. You can see more explorations on this here → Work in Motion
I began by exploring basic concepts to establish the visual style and explored metaphors that could enhance the script. A feedback session with our art director, Tom Parks, taught me the importance of consistently using references in the design process. While I had some references in mind, I wasn't very deliberate about it. I'll be more intentional with this approach going forward.
The next stage was translating this into a final storyboard and this is where some of the ideas got refined, some got thrown out and we added in b-roll and other elements. I then handed over these designs to our video producer Rahul and helped direct the production to completion.
Overall, I'm really pleased with how it went. We can definitely tighten up our workflow, but I'm excited to leverage a different type of skill now for our videos. Previously, I've relied heavily on our art director, Tom Parks, to create the final designs.
