Over the last two-three years I've been slowly building the ability to navigate my computer and do 90% of my work using primarily the keyboard. This is not to say that I don't use the mouse at all, but it is that I have changed my reliance on it — and build a more command-based approach to all of my work.
I will be writing more about keyboard first design and thinking here on the site in future. But suffice it to say that keeping your hands on the home row is an incredible productivity boost.
I've always been able to touch type, but being able to do everything from the keyboard has an insane boost on my speed and productivity and most importantly state of flow when working at the computer.
Here’s an evolving landing page that tells you more about it. Reach out to me on X if you want to know more.
Keyboard First
Professional productivity workflows for the mac that let you think and work at the speed of thought.
Overview
This course covers the techniques, workflows and philosophy for finding a deep, focused flow-state at the computer.
You’ll learn and establish the tools and skills to create a powerful and non-standard way to use your computer, that lets you navigate, capture, retrieve, think, and work at the speed of thought.
Ultimately, it’s about developing a focused, flow-inducing, high-bandwidth connection between you and the computer — which for most of us is our second brain, and our meta-tool.
At the end of the course, you’ll have practical and philosophical strategies to stay in the zone, and your work will be highly ergonomic. You'll reduce context switching and feel more confident keeping up with rapid advancements in work, information, technology, and AI.
Who this course is for
Anyone can take this course, but it gets moving quickly so it’s designed for people with a lot of appetite for information and mastery. Developers, tech professionals, scientists, and entrepreneurs are among the most suited.
